We have been composting here in San Diego, CA for years and love that the worms populate our current 4 composters that we have for our garden. Theworms vary in size but no night crawlers here. When I close down on bin, I use my Sears Ulta Touch Gloves to carefully pick out as many worms with small clumps of compost as I can for the new bins. It is easier since a lot of them clump together to enjoy a communal meal and I think you know what. Thank you very much for your great website and information about this gardening topic.

Did you want me to spoil your fun and tell you the real reason everything's giant in Australia - and this doesn't cover the Big Pineapple or the Big Pink Buffalo, they're <del datetime="2007-08-03T02:16:48+00:00">probably</del> coz of the beer!

Animals everywhere used to be giant - think mammoths. But then people came along and killed them all. People came later to Australia and our giant critters lived for a bit longer eg. giant wombats, kangaroos, etc. But once people came to australian from asia, the big animals were hunted to extinction. I think huge earthworms survived because they live underground and people wouldn't have come across them much, until white people started farming and excavating for building, roads, etc. And now that we're doing this, the giant earthworms are close to extinction.

Its all our fault :(

NB. Go to <a href="http://henrietta.liswa.wa.gov.au/search/x" rel="nofollow">http://henrietta.liswa.wa.gov.au/search/x</a> and search on big pineapple. then choose "Big Australian tourist attractions"
You will see just how sad Australia is!

What is it about Australia that it has everything on a giant scale! I mean, it's incredible. Must be something in the soil ... the water ... the air ... and even the beer. ;)
